MIKE BLOOMBERG BIOGRAPHY
A Valentine's Day baby, Michael Rubens Bloomberg was born during World War II on February 14, 1942 in Boston. Raised by working class parents during a time of great change in America, he was taught that opportunity comes from education, innovation and hard work.
He attended John Hopkins University by working as a parking lot attendant during summer vacations and taking out loans. He then went on to earn his MBA from Harvard Business School.
Hired by Salomon Brothers in New York City, he quickly demonstrated a keen knowledge of rapidly expanding technology and information system applications in the financial world. He rose through the ranks of Salomon, but fell victim of a buyout in 1981 and was fired during the merger.
While embracing the important lessons of this setback, he forged his own path ahead and founded Bloomberg LP in 1981. This visionary company used emerging technology to bring a new era of efficiency to Wall Street. Today, while Bloomberg has shifted his focus on civic life, the company still thrives as the premiere financial news service in the finance industry employing over 9500 employees in 100 countries.
